ISU students place 2nd in National Dairy Council New Product Competition
A team of Iowa State University students received second place in the 2016 National Dairy Council New Product Competition with their product "Beyond the Bar." The newly created frozen yogurt sandwich is designed to satisfy a sweet-tooth and yet provide natural energy enhancers and nutrients to consumers.

Graduating Teacher Education Students Corded
Graduating students in the Iowa State University Educator Preparation Program have been honored to designate their rank as professional educators. The graduates were bestowed with cords of light blue, the traditional color of academic tassels worn by those in the field of education, in a ceremony on Friday, May 6, in Stephen's Auditorium in Ames. The Iowa State University Educator Preparation Program comprises students and faculty in several colleges. The program is coordinated by the School of Education in the College of Human Sciences.

Upper classmen chosen as Peer Mentors to help new Iowa State students adjust to college life
Experienced Iowa State University students are serving as Peer Mentors for 2015-2016 Learning Communities. Mentors help new students make the transition to college life. These selected Peer Mentors are often involved with organizing study groups, social events, and out-of-class activities. Iowa State University students study the culinary world in Spain
Iowa State University students spent nearly two weeks learning culinary techniques in a study abroad experience to Spain, the hottest country in culinary arts. Students learned about the diversity of traditional Spanish cuisine and new culinary trends, worked with renowned chef instructors, and saw food production facilities. This is one of the many programs through the Agriculture Study Abroad Office, who has sent students to all seven continents.

Iowa State University graphic design students take top honors in art directors exhibition
Eighteen Iowa State University graphic design students had work accepted into the Art Directors Association of Iowa (ADAI) Design Exhibition in June. Jeremy Murray of Ames won both Student Best of Show and Identity System Best of Category for his "Bikes and Beatniks" project completed in Associate Professor Paula Curran's spring 2015 graphic design junior studio. Eight other students won Best of Category Awards and three also won Judge's Choice Awards. More than half of the entries in the show were from the ISU Department of Graphic Design.

Iowa State University College of Design students complete semester in Rome
Thirty-six architecture and 11 landscape architecture students studied in Italy for the spring 2015 semester with the Iowa State University College of Design Rome Program. Their studio projects involved research, analysis and proposed redesign of segments of the 12-mile Aurelian Wall that rings the area of Imperial-era Rome. They also participated in a three-day design charrette with 19 students from the University of Oklahoma in Rome and 50 Italian students from Roma Tre University.

Graphic Design in Europe program provides intensive cultural immersion
Fifteen graphic design students in Iowa State University's College of Design traveled to cities in France, Italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland for three weeks to study European graphic design and visual culture. Through visits to design studios, museums and historical sites, students learned about the art, architecture and design of each city and site and the varied philosophies and methods of European design firms.

Iowa State University students get perspective traveling the world during spring semester
Over the course of spring semester, Iowa State University students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences took their learning outside the classroom and into a totally hands-on environment. The students traveled to places like Argentina, Brazil and Costa Rica over Spring Break, and to St. John for the semester, to learn more about chosen areas of study.

Iowa State University Students win overall prize at judging conference
Students from #ISUCALS made up the Iowa State University teams who won the overall award among four-year institutions at the April 8-10 North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Judging Conference. The conference top award, called the Sweepstakes Award, was presented for the teams' good showing in 10 agricultural subject matter contests.

Forestry students see real-world situations at annual Forestry Camp
For 100 years the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management has been hosting Forestry Camp to provide students the opportunity to see in a real-world situation the curriculum and land management concepts read about in books. For three weeks, the group of 30 students called Lubrecht Experimental Forest, 30 miles outside of Missoula, Montana, home base. With rustic living conditions and activities building student engagement, Forestry Camp provided a one-of-a-kind experience.
